Rear-wheel drive, a low center of gravity, 228 horsepower, and a standard 6-speed manual. Here's what you actually need to know about Subaru's two-door sports car.
A lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe that's much more interested in corners than being the sensible Subaru.
Every 2026 BRZ uses a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter SUBARU BOXER engine producing 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Unlike almost every other Subaru, the BRZ sends its power to the rear wheels.
A 6-speed manual is standard on both regular trims. Limited can also be ordered with a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters; the tS is manual-only.
The magic isn't just the horsepower number. The BRZ is built around a low center of gravity, quick steering, a Torsen limited-slip differential, and a lightweight chassis designed to make the car feel alive in corners.

The BRZ questions you're definitely going to hear.
Correct. The 2026 BRZ is rear-wheel drive. Its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout is intentional and is a big part of its lightweight sports-car handling character.
Yes. A 6-speed manual is standard on both 2026 BRZ Limited and tS. Limited can also be equipped with a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters; tS is manual-only.
The 2026 BRZ uses a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter SUBARU BOXER engine producing 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
The tS keeps the same 228-horsepower engine but adds an STI-tuned sport suspension, Brembo performance brakes, dark gray 18-inch wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, and unique interior details. It is manual-only.
